Breath

Did you know that the average person takes about 12 to 14 breaths per minute? If there is 1440 minutes in a day, that’s about 17,280 to 20,160 breaths a day. You inhale and exhale about 6 liters of air a minute, so again 1440 minutes in a day comes out to about 8640 to 10,080 liters of air in a day.

That’s a lot of hot air!

What’s more amazing than that?!?!?!? The fact that God sovereignly controls the number of our breaths!

Genesis 2:7 “Then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.”

Job 14:5 “Since his days are determined, and the number of his months is with you, and you have appointed his limits that he cannot pass”.

For some people knowing that God is sovereign, even down to their last breath may cause concern, frustration or even resentment.

But I’m comforted in the fact that God has numbered my breaths and days. It shows me that God is a loving father who has me placed squarely in His hands. He knows all, He controls all, and He sovereignly reigns! Just as He knows the numbers of hairs (or lack thereof) on my head, He knows how many times I’ll breathe. God is intimately involved with me.

Sit back, take a deep breath…inhale…exhale…inhale…exhale…..

And thank God you have another breath…and another…and another…

Michael
